Together we aim to develop and optimize new pharmaceutical materials with incorporated active pharmaceutical ingredients, with potential application in manufacturing personalized pediatric drugs using 3D printing. The design and building of a demonstration version of a novel 3D printer with a wide range of applications capable of extruding colloidal and low-melting materials are also in the pipeline. Our project arises from the limitations that present already-existing ways of drug dose personalization, needed especially in the absence of pediatric dosages on the market. New additive manufacturing technologies may become the solution, enabling the personalization of a drug in an easily-adjustable process. This project addresses the current challenges in the expansion of additive manufacturing technologies in biomedical applications.
